hi, all.
i am thinking to at least show up there, at the conference.
I live in SanFrancisco, available afternoons, at least one day, flexible.
i have no vehicle, so am limited to carry-on style.
i have antique powerpc laptops running Debian.
1) powerbook3400, sarge (180Mhz 603ev, 80MB RAM) -on batteries !
2) "hot-rodded" pismo, etch (550mhz G4, 578MB RAM, ...)
i am not sure either would be really good PR (or me, for that matter),
the 3400 has a few issues, but i am working on these, and for me
at least it is a miracle to see it running a recent OS fairly well. i have
some of the light and some of the heavy applications on it.
i do not have the standard desktops, eg gnome, kde, i do have
some famous apps like gimp and scribus, plus GnuStep (on both)
and starting to collect experimental/upstream stuff ...
its not too polished either.
i have three other macs, two are old 68k, small; third g3 sprawls
(not transportable). have only been in this since january, but
i was in unix long ago, mac a few years (i bought all this stuff
used), also NeXT a few years, very little wintel.
BTW, both installs done with business card image and net-install
with the aid of sanfrancisco's famous wireless network. partly
why i picked debian was that this worked well for me. i got my
base install at a branch library and updates/packages at the cafe.
