If I thought this was just an init system war, I wouldn't care nearly as
much. Even if I feel the mainstream view of history has unfairly
maligned General Ludd, I don't think his approach is always applicable
:)
But it's about so much more. systemd project have a encompassing vision
of personal computing that I cannot accept. Of course it is technically
possible that systemd itself will be forked or reimplemented so you can
use it as a new init system and drop the vision. (Some people are
already working on that. [1]) But there are reasons why such a project
will have as much or more difficulty gaining traction than a distro fork
using one of the existing init systems.
It is also possible that by the time dust has really settled I will be
senile enough that it won't make a difference to me.
