Hrm. Maybe it does have an aironet card in there. You might want to
take a look at Fabrice Bellet's T40 HOWTO at
http://bellet.info/laptop/t40.html. First of all, it's the best T40
HOWTO out there, so it might have something of relevance for you.
More importantly, he's done a fair amount of hacking on the airo
driver, so maybe he'll have some insights.

There are two numbers that you'll need. Both should be stamped on the
bottom of your machine. You'll want the type, which is a four digit
number. On my machine, the type is right next to the IBM logo.
You'll also want the model number which is a three digit alphanum. On
my machine the sticker that has the serial number also has the
type/model next to it (in the form of ###-##X). I don't recall if
it's available on the bios or not.

Right. Unless IBM ships with the designated Intel card, it won't be
labelled as a centrino. On the other hand, the stickers that came
on my machine eventually wore off. So that may not be the best
indicator.

Sorry that I can't be of more help. You might want to try the
linux-thinkpad mailing list. Their archives are pretty extensive.
