If you are interested in this sort of thing, infrastructures.org is a
good place to look. I have started to look at cfengine several times but
my round tuits keep falling short. I personally like something more
straightforward like monit.
Tying to the SCM question: ability to save file permissions is a Good
Thing for sysadmins. Maybe other meta-info as well: ACLs, SELinux
attributes and whatnot.

FWIW, I just noticed that xsane has an interface to sending your scan as
a fax. That's about all I need.
