Windows porting

I have no problem if people aren't interested in the topic. That's why when
the discussion shifted to why Windows ports are undesirable I didn't just
drop it. I was curious to hear why some people felt strongly that way,
especially since it seems like all popular Linux open source projects have
Windows ports.

A little background, I recently talked with a corporate sponsor of the Gimp
project who said one reason they would never provide funding for that
project again is because their efforts were never incorporated into the
(officially unsupported) Windows port. The company wanted its work to make
as broad a difference as possible, the more operating systems the better.
Having developed software myself in many different operating systems without
prejudice, I was at a loss to explain the reason for what seems to be a
self-defeating anti-Windows bias.

The explanation given at the meeting was that Microsoft should be shunned
for trying to limit choice.
