Its a bad place to be employed, but a great place to base a business.
Cheap internet (adsl and cablemodem are competing here, and charge $35/mo), 
cheap telephony (I pay 7 cents a minute to the US, 4 cents a minute within 
Canada, and free within BC) at flat 24 hour rates, and an international
airport 1/2 hour from downtown.

EXCELLENT public transit system, with very good coverage, and at a low
rate of $35/mo.  Nothing like the fiasco in the Bay Area.  Oh, and did I 
mention wages are low here?  That is an advantage for some
(not the employees).  Ditto for rent.
