Hello,
I've got a dell optiplex gxa 233 Pii upgraded to the latest bios
ax09 which recognizes large hard drives. I've installed a 2nd hard drive
- ibm 14.4 gig (deskstar 14gxp) as slave on the primary controller.
When booting from rescue disk and entering the installation script
from cdrom for slink, cfdisk shows the drive as being 8.5gig in size. I've
booted with the 2nd drive enabled in the bios and disabled with the same
result.
When this didn't work I attempted the following at the the initial
boot: prompt on the rescue disk I: rescue hdb=16383,16,63
The kernel would then start loading, would show both drives and then
kernel panic with the error - 'Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs
on 01:00' I've created several rescue disks with the same result. I also
tried the resc1440-safe image also. Nothing seems to work.
I've read both the Large drive howto and the boot parameter
howto, but they don't seem to have a solution. The large hard drive
howto mentions that kernel 2.2 series recognizes large drives better,
but where do I get a slink rescue disk with a 2.2 kernel on it? I couldn't
find one on ftp.debian.org.
Any ideas on how to install slink to this 2nd hard drive?
Thanks in advance
