On the guess this is a kernel 2.0 bug that has been fixed, try my new kernel
2.2.11 boot floppies. Highly experimental, get them at
http://www.debian.org/~joeyh/boot-floppies/

You probably need only resc1440.bin and drv1440.bin from there.
