Message-ID: <20140712213747.11393qu6q3hu7scg@webmail.rawbw.com> Do you happen to have or know where I can get the Debian ISO file: debian-30r0-i386-binary-1.iso or CD (description/label): Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 r0 "Woody" - Official i386 Binary-1 (20020718) Debian 3.0 r0 i386 Bin-1 (md5sum is b4b26c99d614510ffaa19bd18600ff43) or possibly the constituent .deb files I'm missing to complete that image? (more details on that further below). I'd like to complete that ISO image - mostly for historical purposes (the Debian project may also be interested in the missing constituent files available on that completed ISO and set). I have a nearly complete set of Debian 3.0r0 i386 CDs, but alas, there are read errors on the Binary-1 CD (and yes, I've tried ddrescue and dares and reading it from different CD drives). I've also tried reconstructing it via jigdo from files on http://archive.debian.org/ and http://us.cdimage.debian.org/ - unfortunately though they do have the jigdo file, they don't have all the required .deb files going back quite that far - and they don't have the .iso files there (they instead provide .jigdo file and theoretically all the required constituent .deb files). I have also quite searched the web, etc., including archive.org, and haven't been able to come up with the image or .deb files. If anyone happens to have it, there is also a Linux Magazine DVD https://www.linux-magazine.com/w3/issue/35/Linux_Magazine_DVD_Inlay.pdf (Linux Magazine, issue 35 2003-10) that may provide some, many, or (unlikely) all of the needed .deb files to complete that 3.0r0 CD ISO - but I've not been able to find that DVD/ISO - haven't been able to find that ISO available on The Internet, though archive.org does have some later DVDs from that magazine, but not that DVD ISO, and I've checked some local libraries and Link+, many have that magazine issue in electronic form, but I haven't found one that has that issue in physical form and thus might also have the DVD. If anyone happens to have that DVD, I'd be interested, as that might help complete the CD ISO I'm trying to reconstruct. For details on the .deb files I'm missing to complete the CD ISO and portions of the CD ISO I do and don't have, have a look at the below (or list may convert to linked "attachment"), or also grab/see under: http://www.test.balug.org/mpaoli/.debian-30r0-i386-binary-1.iso/ begin 600 debian-30r0-i386-binary-1_missing_info.tar.gz M'XL(`+?]P5,"`^V:6V_CR!&%_3R_ at L"^)/!*9E7?Y\US<5Z"/&219X.6:(]B M271(V3.;7Y^6?%&='K(V%V""!=0+>&37Z:YF?V2+=;:7[SE8E^ M=K/:-OVO,[I83D7FJZ&;+Y=].RP>V_FZN[M=K=LSI=6Y66L/_^96_FL"\1DQ MD_5U",:?U6Q;H8^KI2;Z/J/[O)(Q_<,4(?#ODNGB.? Unfortunately many of the 3.0r0 .deb files are missing from archive.debian.org. Specifically (listed further below), there are 55 .deb files I still need that aren't on archive.debian.org. Seems archive.debian.org goes back well into 3.0rX where X is approximately 3 or so, but not earlier than that. So apparently files that hadn't been superseded by later 3.0rX updates are still there, whereas those that had been superseded by the time the data for archive.debain.org was apparently preserved and saved - well, the earlier files are apparently not there to be found on archive.debian.org. Twitter https://twitter.com/#!/BALUG_org ------------------------------ For our 2014-07-15 BALUG meeting, at least presently we don't have a specific speaker/presentation lined up for this meeting, but that doesn't prevent us from having interesting and exciting meetings and discussions. Sometimes we also manage to secure/confirm a speaker too late for us to announce or fully publicize the speaker (that's happened at least twice in the past). Got questions, answers, and/or opinions? We typically have some expert(s) and/or relative expert(s) present to cover Linux and related topic areas. Want to hear some interesting discussions on LINUX and other topics? Show up at the meeting, and feel free to bring an agenda if you wish. Want to help ensure BALUG has speakers/presentations lined up for future meetings? Help refer speakers to us and/or volunteer to be one of the speaker coordinators. Good food, good people, and interesting conversations to be had. So, if you'd like to join us please RSVP to: rsvp at balug.org **Why RSVP??** Well, don't worry we won't turn you away, but the RSVPs really help BALUG and the Four Seas Restaurant plan the meal and meeting, and with sufficient attendance, they also help ensure that we'll be able to eat upstairs in the private banquet room. Meeting Details... 6:30pm Tuesday, July 15th, 2014 2014-07-15 Four Seas Restaurant http://www.fourseasr.com/ 731 Grant Ave. San Francisco, CA 94108 Easy Transit Access: The MUNI 1 line stops half a block away. For folks on BART, the MUNI 1 starts about a block from Embarcadero BART. Trip planning: http://www.511.org/ Easy PARKING: Portsmouth Square Garage at 733 Kearny: http://www.sfpsg.com/ Cost: The meetings are always free, but for dinner, for your gift of $13 cash, we give you a gift of dinner - joining us for a yummy family-style Chinese dinner - tax and tip included (your gift also helps in our patronizing the restaurant venue). ------------------------------ We typically have various giveaway items at BALUG meetings. We'll likely have at least the below plus additional items. CDs/DVDs/ISOs, etc. - have a peek here: http://www.wiki.balug.org/wiki/doku.php?id=balug:cds_and_images_etc We may also be able to "burn" images per request or copy to USB flash, etc. Donations of blank or +-RW media, USB flash, or funding thereof, also appreciated. See the above URL for details (and the inventory (qty.) of what we specifically have "burned" and available on-hand does also frequently change). ------------------------------ volunteering to help BALUG (and add to your resume/experience) Not only can you do useful and cool stuff volunteering to help BALUG, but it can also be a way to gain useful and practical experience, and could also be something to add to or round out one's resume. There a quite a variety of opportunities to help BALUG. Come talk to us at a meeting and/or drop us a note at: balug-contact at balug.org These opportunities may include, among other possibilities: o assist on speaker coordination/procurement, etc. o assist on publicity o chief/assistant cat herder o Linux Systems Administration (e.g. do/assist/learn, with/under some quite experienced and skilled Linux systems administrators). o webmaster, assistant webmaster, designer, graphic artist o archivist/history/retrieval/etc. o and other various/miscellaneous tasks BALUG "ought" to be doing or would be good to do (feel free to suggest ideas!) ------------------------------ Twitter - you can also follow BALUG on Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/BALUG_org ------------------------------ Feedback on our publicity/announcements (e.g. contacts or lists where we should get our information out that we're not presently reaching, or things we should do differently): publicity-feedback at balug.org ------------------------------ From Michael.Paoli at cal.berkeley.edu Tue Jul 15 07:08:17 2014 From: Michael.Paoli at cal.berkeley.edu (Michael Paoli) Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2014 07:08:17 -0700 Subject: Thanks!: Have or know where I can get?: Debian 3.0r0 (debian-30r0-i386-binary-1.iso ...) In-Reply-To: <20140712213747.11393qu6q3hu7scg@webmail.rawbw.com> References: <20140712213747.11393qu6q3hu7scg@webmail.rawbw.com> Message-ID: <20140715070817.84783uq0ww85kdes@webmail.rawbw.com> Thanks all, for the suggestions, tips, pointers, etc. I have now reconstructed that ISO image, and have also offered the data/files to Debian, if Debian may wish to obtain those (or the missing files) for the Debian archive: https://lists.debian.org/debian-cd/2014/07/msg00011.html Other bits I'll note that were mentioned, etc. (in not necessarily any particular order): ftp://ftp.rz.uni-frankfurt.de/pub/_Linux/Debian/dists/Debian3.0r0/debian-30r0-i386-binary-1_NONUS.iso Highly useful - I hadn't thought of looking for or trying the NONUS ISO - turns out that image in fact had all 55 of the .deb files I still needed to complete the build of debian-30r0-i386-binary-1.iso I probably should've also mentioned it, but yes, I'd also run across http://chomikuj.pl/abcwro/pub/linux/debian/3.0_r0/cdrom/debian-30r0-i386-binary-1 earlier in my searches. But this time around I (and with the help of Google translate) looked into it a bit more. Though it seemed it wanted payment to download the full image, it looks like if one signed up for a free account on the site, then one gets with that, ability to download 50 MiB (or MB?) per week for free. If that could be done to download select portions of the ISO, that may possibly have been a feasible (and even free - at least as in beer) approach to obtaining the data. And it may not have taken all that horribly long either, as I only needed 55 files - probably significantly under 20% of the total content of the full ISO image. Lovely service - http://snapshot.debian.org/ - I'd forgotten about it, even though I read about it before: https://www.debian.org/News/2010/20100412 Though http://snapshot.debian.org/ didn't go back far enough to help with debian-30r0-i386-binary-1.iso, sometime last year I did stumble onto a minor issue that snuck in sometime between 2003 and 2013 and is fairly likely to be a regression bug, and http://snapshot.debian.org/ could certainly make isolating when and how that issue snuck in quite a bit easier. Anyway, I do now have the full set of 7 CD ISOs :-) 3.0 r0 "Woody" - Official i386 Binary (20020718) plus also now NONUS. http://www.wiki.balug.org/wiki/doku.php?id=balug:cds_and_images_etc references/excerpts: http://bad.debian.net/pipermail/bad/2014-July/003621.html http://bad.debian.net/pipermail/bad/2014-July/date.html > From: "Michael Paoli" > Subject: Have or know where I can get?: Debian 3.0r0 > (debian-30r0-i386-binary-1.iso ...) > Date: Sat, 12 Jul 2014 21:37:47 -0700 > Do you happen to have or know where I can get the Debian ISO file: > debian-30r0-i386-binary-1.iso > or CD (description/label): > Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 r0 "Woody" - Official i386 Binary-1 (20020718) > Debian 3.0 r0 i386 Bin-1 > (md5sum is b4b26c99d614510ffaa19bd18600ff43) > or possibly the constituent .deb files I'm missing to complete that > image?
