src package conundrum

Well, I figured that.  But what mystified me was why apt (per Richard's
recounting) immediately replaced the source-built package with a fetched
binary one of the _same_ version.

I mean, it's obvious why apt would replace the source-built package with
_later_ binary releases in the package mirrors, but why replace the same
version?
