1. if the first one from your area, post to the list a message with
"CARPOOL FROM" in the subject line and be willing to
forward/coordinate for your area
  e.g. "CARPOOL FROM BERKELEY/OAKLAND/ALAMEDA" or some such

2. reply by private mail to the first poster from your area
