Glen: I've heard about Spikesource, and understand it's based around
LAMP (good basis there), but I really don't understand the positioning.
Best I can understand is in terms of what it's not:
- It's not a distro.
- It's not a turnkey solutions provider.
- It's not a source/upstream developer of underlying LAMP
technologies, though it's got some solid connections there.
- It's not pitching itself as a support provider / consultant (though
this may be a lack of clear communications).
- It's not a hosting or hardware provider.
What it is:
- Pretty high profile in terms of its connections. There are good
people who've been around the community. ++
- Not a whole lot of solid business background among the key advisors.
--
- Prior management experience based on push. --
- Silicon Valley location. Hello, high rents. --
- Based on one of the core "KA" GNU/Linux / Free Software strengths.
++
- Competing, best I can tell, with every other distro, dev team, and
services company out there. --
- VC backed. Hello, burn rate. --
- No visible client list. --
I have to say I'm scratching my head, and am not overly optimistic with
what I can see in front of me. Any imagewashing you'd care to do?
Peace.

What Part of "Gestalt" don't you understand?
I guess "the El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles del Rio
de Porciuncula diet" just doesn't have the same ring....
