I haven't seen apt-find, but Jason mentioned he had a friend that was working
on an ncurses bases program, that must be it.

I really wanted to work with GUI if possible though.

I see gnome-apt as being used by a lot of people, although one minor nit that
was brought up yesterday by a friend is that it does require GNOME to run, so
it won't work under KDE for instance (unless the GNOME libs are loaded on the
machine).
